Thank you all for a great winter season at the MOWC!

With all of the snow melted and green grass starting to emerge, the end of another winter season has come. We would like to thank everyone for visiting the MOWC this winter: there were many great highlights!
Winter got off to a very slow start with our Nordic trail system not fully opening until late January due to lack of snow. When we finally got snow, the trails were put to good use. With the Edward Little and Leavitt Nordic teams practicing 3-4 times a week at the MOWC, it was nice to have ski traffic on the trails. Many members of the community also came to use the trails and we loved seeing people out there skiing and snowshoeing.
We hosted two Nordic events this winter with the first one in late January. We hosted the Roy Varney Hornet Classic high school Nordic race on January 31st. With over 150 racers and 10 teams, it was a super successful event with great conditions. Thank you to all of the volunteers for helping at this event. We also hosted in March the very fun Leavitt Duathlon event where high school skiers dressed up in costumes. Skiers skied one lap classic and then one lap freestyle, all while throwing snowballs and having fun. The event concluded with sweet treats for everyone.

We have several plans for the near future. We are exploring the possibility of having snowmaking. With the river right there as a water source, it would be very convenient. We cannot have many of our winter programs without snow so we hope that snowmaking can become a reality. We also want to have biathlon at the MOWC, hopefully within the next 3-5 years.

We will continue to enhance and grow. Thank you to everyone for stopping by this winter. We hope to see you at our annual summer fundraiser event scheduled for July 15th. See details here. https://www.eventbrite.com/e/annual-summer-fundraiser-community-gathering-tickets-517509072567

In the meantime, feel free to use our trials for walking, running, and biking. I’ll see you out there.
